Gut Piles By RubsNScrapes.com

Does a gut pile scare deer? Do you just field dress the deer where you find it or move it some other place first?

justinwp - This year we hauled all of our deer out of the woods before gutting them. I'm not sure if a gut pile may spook a deer or not, but why not just take the extra step?

Thinking about this a bit more, it seems that all of the activity that goes into gutting a deer at site would probably leave quite a bit of my scent. This may scare the deer more than the actual gut pile or blood on the ground.

jkk - most gut piles dont last 24 hours before they get consumed by other animals, if you are dragging the deer for a ways you will want to gut it where you kill it to save weight..

Jayysus - Three days ago I sat within 20 yards of a gut pile and had a year-old doe walk within 5 yards of it. The gut pile was located on a heavily traveled deer path. The deer did not look at the gut pile; it slowly walked around it.

Reprobait - Deer aren't burdened with human reasoning. There are only three things that motivate deer: survival, breeding, and hunger, -period....
At a local plant entrance a doe in estrus was killed by a car and died off to the side of the road. A six point buck laid beside her for three days waiting for her to arise so he could breed her. He cared about NOTHING else!!
